You Need The Following  Tax Id Numbers:

  1. All businesses need a business tax id registration number also called a business license.

If You Are Starting a Business, You May Need a Tax Id Number Number

When Starting a Business, all businesses, including home based businesses, internet businesses, ebay, online web sites, professional practices, contractors or any other business, in DC are required to identify their business with one of two numbers: either a Social Security number or an EIN or employer identification tax id number. In DC, If you use a name other than your own personal name to operate a business, you are legally required  to file  a DBA Certificate , also known as a dba (doing business as) form.

Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN), also known as Federal Tax Identification Number (TIN)

A FEIN is a nine-digit number assigned by the IRS to individuals, new businesses and corporations or llcs. The IRS uses the number to identify business taxpayers who are required to file various tax returns. Federal Ids are used by employers, sole proprietors, partnerships, corporations, nonprofit organizations, trusts, estates of decedents, government agencies, certain individuals and other business entities.
