ok thank you for answering my questions. Selling clothing, whether a boutique, online store, ebay or amazon requires first and formost a selection of a business structure. With that in mind, there are 4 major structures.

A sole proprietorship, a partnership, an LLC, and a corporation. Choose one of these and you are on the road to getting the rest of the required licenses with the first being a sellers permit. A sellers permit will enable you to buy wholesale clothing, sell it or even sell it at the retail level.




Here's How to Get Your Tax ID and Other permits and Registrations You May Need. Seller's Permit, LLC, DBA, Licenses & Tax IDs Requirements:




First decide on a business structure Clothing Store as a Sole Proprietor, LLC/Corp, or Partnership.


Note that each structure requires a filing. E.g., selecting an LLC, requires at least an LLC certificate, an LLC operating agreement, a business license and a federal tax ID number.

    Also, note that whatever item that you sell or lease and it is an item that can be touched (i.e., tangible such as CLOTHING STORE equipment, toys, merchandise, electronics, prepared food) requires a state sales tax ID ( 
Sellers Permit ) to either buy or sell the items or products wholesale and or sell them retail.



    If you are hiring workers anytime soon, you will need a
Federal EIN and a State EIN (employer identification number). Other instances that you will need a federal tax ID are: if you are a partnership, an independent contractor, and a corporation or anLLC . You can also obtain a federal tax ID as a sole proprietor and use it as a business tax ID in the place of a social security number.



    However, you will still need other CLOTHING STORE registrations, such as licenses, an assumed business name DBA, and tax IDs as described above. Finally, even one person, sole owner/proprietors working from home or just online can form a LLC or incorporate, in which case, they will not need to file a DBA.



It also lets you pay the sales tax you collect to the government. So e.g., you sell a pair of pants for $10, you need to charge 8% tax.



        So you charge $10.80.  You keep the $10 and you pay the government the $0.80 cents.  Furthermore, you will need to get a general business license simply because all businesses need to get one.  



        In addition, if you get any help selling clothing, you will need both a federal ID and a State Employer Identification Number because you will need to pay employment taxes.   For example, you hire Natalia and Roberto as clothing sales workers.



          You need to pay them the hourly wage plus their employment taxes. They pay half and you pay the other half as their employer.

how long does this take? Do i get a temporary resale certificate right away? im just wanting to get a sellers permit to buy wholesale items and just want to make sure i didnt need to get anything else is this where i apply got a sellers permit for wholesale clothing boutique in Illinois.

im just trying to figure out if i need a sellers permit thats all maam do you need a business license to sell at a christmas bazaar? I just wanted to sell some christmas stockings a 1 church bazaar for one day. I have a Cottage Food License and looking for information about becoming a commercial bakery.
